Valentine’s Rebus

This hand-drawn Valentine’s puzzle in the form of a pictogram or rebus was found in one of the Library’s collection of scrapbooks. It probably dates from the early nineteenth century, when illustrated letters of this sort were extremely popular, along with other forms of correspondence such as looking-glass letters, which had to be held in front of a mirror to be read.
